Should Wozniacki win the US Open, she will replace Williams as the World No. 1 player. She will also get the largest payday ever in women's sports, $2.7 million including a $1 million bonus for winning both the US Open Series and the US Open. She defeated Chelsey Gullickson 6–1, 6–1 in the first round and had an even easier second round, 6–0, 6–0 over Chang Kai-chen in 47 minutes. The third round saw her defeating another Taiwanese player, Chan Yung-jan, 6–1, 6–0. In the fourth round she is expected to get more opposition from one of the tournament favourites, the 2006 champion Maria Sharapova
the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, Wozniacki’s father and coach, Piotr, was quoted as saying, “Caroline would like to study at Yale, so we actually are looking at the opportunity here in New York. It’s close to New Haven, and there are training opportunities here, so we are thinking very seriously about it.”
